1447330395Code 4851 Antique sundialRare antique compass and sundial together, made in the early nineteenth century, placed in a box made of turned boxwood complete with lid. Compass card with eight winds, complete with the daylight hours in Roman numerals, printed on paper by engraving on copper plate, with a small gnomon at the center of the compass inside the concave glass protection. Orienting the compass to north the gnomon casts a shadow on the scale of hours. Very good condition. Diameter 5.2 cm - inch 1.9, height 3 - inch 1.3.

Different people and different cultures have also adopted various ways of measuring time in relation to their needs: we can still observe ancient sundials that do not follow the hours that we use today (astronomical hours) but, for example, Babylonian hours, Italian hours, canonical hours, etc.

Do you provide an authenticity certificate/expertise?

The legislative decree n. 42/2004 stipulates that who sells works of art or historical and archaeological items has the obligation to deliver to the purchaser the documents attesting to the authenticity of the object, or at least to submit the documents relating to the probable attribution and origin.
