1744298340Code 8119 Barometric StationTable or wall barometric station in wood and glass signed Lufft from the fifties, made for the Italian market and composed of aneroid barometer, thermometer and hygrometer. Good condition, fully functional. Measurements cm 30x5x12 – inches 11.9x2x4.8.

Since ancient times, man, as a farmer and navigator, has observed and attempted to predict the course of the climate. The scientific study of the changes that occur in the atmosphere began in the mid-17th century, in relation to experiments aimed at demonstrating the existence of a vacuum, which the ancient philosophers denied because "nature abhors a vacuum!". Evangelista Torricelli (1608-1647), mathematician and physicist, disciple of Galileo, was the first, in 1643, to build an instrument capable of detecting changes in air pressure, which he understood to be linked to changes in the weather.

Gotthilf Lufft 1848-1921 technical assistant at the Technical University of Stuttgart began his career at the age of 25 in 1873 by taking over an optical company and immediately starting to produce aneroid capsules in his workshop, which until then had been imported from France. Lufft, a dynamic entrepreneur, was able to manage both the optical production and the production of aneroid barometers, compasses and hygrometers, which were introduced into the catalogue during the First World War, in addition to a considerable range of instruments related to meteorological measurement. Today, the company G. Lufft is the market leader in climate measurement technology.
