Compass card on plastic paper with 8 winds, with goniometric circle. 1930's. Very good condition and in perfect working order.Width cm 23 - inches 9, height cm 19 - inches 7.48, diameter of compass cm 16 - inches 6.29.
In 1812, John Lilley founded John Lilley and Son in London, an optical firm and nautical instruments, magnetic compasses, sextants and telescopes maker. In 1885 John Wilson Gillie founded Wilson & Gillie in North Shields as Admiralty chart agents and magnetic compass and nautical instrument makers. In 1913 Wilson & Gillie merged with John Lilley & Son to form John Lilley & Son of London and North Shields. In 1920 John Lilley retired and J.W. Gillie gained full control of the company. In 1932 - John Lilley & Son of London merged with Reynolds and Son, Dobbie & Clyde Ltd., to become Lilley & Reynolds., with J.W. Gillie as Chairman. In 1943 John Lilley & Son of North Shields is re-named John Lilley & Gillie Ltd. In the early 1970s Lilley and Gillie developed close links with Observator in Rotterdam; since then, the company has consolidated its position as a Class A Admiralty Chart Agent and nautical instrument manufacturer, and has gradually entered the field of marine electronics. The firm also acquired the assets of Henry Brown & Sons (Sestrel) Limited.

Do you provide an authenticity certificate/expertise?
Of course! The legislative decree n. 42/2004 stipulates that who sells works of art or historical and archaeological items has the obligation to deliver to the purchaser the documents attesting to the authenticity of the object, or at least to submit the documents relating to the probable attribution and origin. Antik Arte & Scienza provides an expertise (as warranty) that contains a description, period and assignment or the author, if known, of the item.

Shipping by DHL or UPS is free (but if we are shipping to a country non-EU remember that any taxes and customs duties are on your expense), and items will be sent just after receiving of payment.
