Terrestrial globe made in the second half of the 19th century by Ernst Schotte of Berlin, revised and corrected by M. Vivien de Saint-Martin for Hachette & C.ie Paris.
In addition to the territorial map, ocean currents are depicted. Turned and ebonized wooden base, complete with engraved brass meridian circle, papier-mâché sphere.
Good condition, cleaned and restored, signs of use, very good legibility. Dimensions: cm 28 x 59 – 11 x 23.3 in.
Schotte Ernst & Co. was a major globe and planetarium manufacturer, founded in Berlin in 1855. From 1870, Schotte E. & Co. produced numerous globes in over 25 languages, as well as numerous celestial, lunar, and planetary globes, exported throughout Europe, with highly artistic designs and richly decorative features. The company continued production until the early 20th century.
Louis Vivien de Saint-Martin (1802–1896) was a French cartographer, geographer, and historian. Louis Vivien became known for the publication of the Carte électorale et administrative (1823) and the Atlas universel très complet (1825). He wrote L'Année géographique between 1863 and 1875 and also dedicated himself to three monumental works, Histoire des découvertes géographiques, Nouveau dictionnaire de géographie universelle and Atlas universel de géographie. He was also one of the founders of the Société de Géographie.

Do you provide an authenticity certificate/expertise?
Of course! The legislative decree n. 42/2004 stipulates that who sells works of art or historical and archaeological items has the obligation to deliver to the purchaser the documents attesting to the authenticity of the object, or at least to submit the documents relating to the probable attribution and origin. Antik Arte & Scienza provides an expertise (as warranty) that contains a description, period and assignment or the author, if known, of the item.
