1614951069Code 6887 Topographic levelTopographic level signed W.F Stanley of burnished brass, from the second half of the 19th century. In excellent condition and complete with original mahogany box with brass hinges and closing hooks. The instrument consists of a telescope, two orthogonal levels, a compass complete with a goniometric circle with the function of a horizontal circle and base for attachment to the stand with four adjustment screws. Inside the lid of the mahogany box there are two labels: one yellow with the name and address of the manufacturer, the other, also by Stanley, has the date 3.3.1911 of a repair. Box size 45x14.3x13 cm - 17.7x5.6x5.11 inches, level length 32 cm - 12.59 inches, height with base 16.5 cm - 6.49 inches.

William Stanley (1829-1909) was the son of a mechanical engineer; he began in 1849 to work with his father, creating new instruments for drawing and measurement. The study of drawing instruments was conformed to needs of that period: large lands were surveyed, like Indian Continent, and they were drawn nautical maps of enormous parts of ocean. Because of all these innovations, William Stanley opened in 1854 his first laboratory in Holborn London, for make drawing instruments.
