1615817286Code 6921 Zeiss theodoliteTheodolite n. 17965, D.R.P. Carl Zeiss Jena D.R.G.M. 1920s, light gray and black painted brass, internal horizontal and vertical circle with microscope readings, rack and pinion focusing. State of conservation: very good, some signs of use and fully functional. Height 30 cm - 11.8 inches, telescope length 23.5 cm - 9.25 inches, base diameter 14 cm - 5.5 inches.

With a law on June 1st, 1891, the German imperial patent office introduced the "Deutsche Reichs-Gebrauchsmuster". Numerous products were labeled "D.R.G.M." between 1891 and about 1945, often with the addition of the sample number; after the establishment of the Federal Republic of Germany, the abbreviation used became "D.B.G.M." (Deutsches Bundes-Gebrauchsmuster).

On the 17th November 1846 Carl Zeiss founded a factory of precision optical equipment in the city of Jena in Thuringia. Because of the quality of its lenses and tools the Zeiss firm became the official supplier of the University of Jena in 1861 and received the gold medal of the exhibition industry in Thuringia. In 1866, it was built the thousandth Zeiss microscope. Very important for the company it was the meeting between Ernst Abbe, director of research, and Otto Schott: Otto Schott joined the firm Zeiss in 1882, and it was created Glastechnische Laboratorium Schott & Genossen. In 1937 Zeiss had plants in over 29 countries; during the '30s it became interested in military equipment such as binoculars, instruments for u-boot, etc.. After the Second World War and the division of Germany into two blocks, Jena came under Russia, but the Americans were quick to move as many tools as possible to the west and 126 technicians with their families, before the city officially handed to the Soviets. The company, divided in two for a long time, joined together just in 1991.
