The word "scrimshaw" refers to an art form and to the different products of this art, born on board American whaling ships between 1745 and 1759 as a way to occupy time during the long leisure hours on board; this form of craft developed through a process of engraving and carving whale bones and teeth, making objects both usable in everyday life and ornamental, which are usually made as souvenirs for family members.

The object can only be sold in the EU (being a worked antique object made before 1947 it can be sold within EU without CITES certificate).
