1753880824Code 8200 Antique TelescopeRound brass telescope with a leather-wrapped grip and three-extension focusing mechanism. English manufacture, second half of the 19th century.
Good condition, some signs of wear on the leather grip, fully functional and complete with a custom-made wooden and brass base.
Maximum length 41.5 cm (16.2 inches), minimum 14 cm (5.5 inches), focal length 3 cm (1.2 inches).
To focus the telescope, fully extend it and then slowly shorten the last, smallest extension until the image is in focus.
According to legend, one day in 1608, the children of Hans Lipperhey, an eyeglass maker from Middelburg, were playing with lenses in their father's workshop. When one of the sons placed a concave lens close to his eye, holding a convex lens in the other hand, and stretching his arm toward the top of the cathedral bell tower, he looked through it. He saw the weathercock at the top grow larger and move closer. Immediately demonstrating the phenomenon to his father, he secured the lenses to a small board to make observation easier, thus creating the first rudimentary telescope. Unfortunately for Lipperhey, however, when he submitted a patent application for this instrument to the States General, within days other Dutch eyeglass makers also claimed the invention.

Do you provide an authenticity certificate/expertise?
Of course! The legislative decree n. 42/2004 stipulates that who sells works of art or historical and archaeological items has the obligation to deliver to the purchaser the documents attesting to the authenticity of the object, or at least to submit the documents relating to the probable attribution and origin. Antik Arte & Scienza provides an expertise (as warranty) that contains a description, period and assignment or the author, if known, of the item.

Shipping by DHL or UPS is free (but if we are shipping to a country non-EU remember that any taxes and customs duties are on your expense), and items will be sent just after receiving of payment.

Other countries: delivering on the average in 5 weekdays; custom duties charged to the buyer.
