Designed by engineer Carlo Sciarelli and built at the Frausin shipyard in Trieste, it was commissioned by Giulio Ciani Bassetti and launched in 1983.
The project, identified by the number 90, was for a 7-meter vessel conceived as a study vessel and, in the list of Sciarelli's projects, is one of the few marked with two asterisks, a sign of particular value.
Carlo Sciarelli (Trieste, 1934 – 2006) was a naval engineer and designer, as well as one of the most important figures in twentieth-century Italian naval history.
Cultured and passionate, he was described as a "self-taught genius," deeply connected to the sea and classical naval design. From a young age, he frequented the shipyards of the port of Trieste, which remained a constant source of inspiration for him, learning firsthand everything related to boatbuilding.
His vast culture was reflected in his conception of the boat, seen not only as a technical object, but also as an aesthetic and poetic creation.
Over the course of his career, he designed 138 vessels, both sailing and motorboats; his first project dates back to the 1950s.
His boats were distinguished by their elegant, sleek lines, inspired by classical tradition, and driven by a constant quest for beauty that translated into harmonious proportions and solid, reliable hulls. Sciarelli succeeded in combining the sailing tradition of 18th- and 19th-century sailing ships with modern functionality.
He was opposed to passing trends and did not follow market trends: for him, "boats must be beautiful and sail well."
His vessels are now considered true collector's items, preserved as works of art.
In 1970, he published "The Yacht. Origin and Evolution of the Pleasure Sailing Ship," a reference text for naval architects, historians, and enthusiasts, considered a classic of global naval culture. In it, Sciarelli recounts the history of the yacht as an aesthetic and spiritual expression.
His most famous boats include Serenity, Alnair, Glorius, San Nicolò, Ritosa, and the training boats for the Italian Navy.
Famous quotes by Carlo Sciarelli:
"Boats are not designed with a ruler, but with the soul."
"A boat must be beautiful: if it is beautiful, it will sail well."
