The Tiziana IV is a 13.64-meter-long wooden sloop, designed by Carlo Sciarelli and built at the Cantiere Alto Adriatico in Monfalcone, launched in 2000.
The project, identified with number 137 in Sciarelli's official list, was built for Leontino Battistin, already the owner of the Tiziana III.
Tiziana IV represents its evolution: a coupé version, slightly lower, lighter, and with a wider sail plan, designed to improve performance while maintaining the spirit of the previous model.
Built from laminated mahogany, she fully reflects Sciarelli's style, characterized by solidity, beauty, and seaworthiness even in challenging sea conditions.
The penultimate creation of the great Trieste-born designer, the Tiziana IV has participated in numerous classic regattas and won the Trophy at the Hannibal Classic Classic Sails Rally in 2020.
Carlo Sciarelli (Trieste, 1934 – 2006), naval engineer and designer, is considered one of the most significant figures in twentieth-century Italian sailing.
Cultivated and passionate, described as a "self-taught genius," he lived a profound connection with the sea and classical naval design. From a young age, he frequented the shipyards of the port of Trieste, where he learned firsthand the art of shipbuilding, an inspiration that accompanied him throughout his life.
His vision of the boat went beyond the technical aspect: for Sciarelli, every vessel had to also be an aesthetic and poetic work.
Over the course of his career, he designed 138 sailing and motorboats; his first project dates back to the 1950s.
His creations were distinguished by their elegant, sleek lines, the result of a constant search for harmony and beauty, combined with solid, reliable hulls.
Sciarelli successfully combined the sailing tradition of the 18th and 19th centuries with modern functionality, always maintaining a personal and independent vision: he did not follow passing trends or the market, believing that "boats must be beautiful and sail well."
His boats are now considered true works of art and collector's items.
In 1970, he published the book "The Yacht. Origin and Evolution of the Pleasure Sailing Ship," which remains a reference text for naval architects, historians, and enthusiasts, considered a classic of global naval culture. In it, Sciarelli recounts the history of the yacht as an aesthetic and spiritual expression.
Among his most famous boats are Serenity, Alnair, Glorius, San Nicolò, Ritosa, and the training boats for the Italian Navy.
Famous quotes by Carlo Sciarelli:
"Boats are not designed with a ruler, but with the soul."
"A boat must be beautiful: if it is beautiful, it will sail well."
