1761926886Code 8291 Ing Sciarelli ModelScale model with planked hull and cotton sails, reproduction of the Cutter Aurico Sorella, launched in 1858 and restored in 1990 based on a design by Carlo Sciarelli. Good state of conservation. Measurements: 26 × 6.5 × 35 cm – 6.3 x 2.6 x 13.7 inches. The Sorella is a gaff cutter launched in 1858 at the Dan Hatcher shipyard, in the south of England. In 1990 it was restored at the Alto Adriatico shipyard in Monfalcone based on a design by Carlo Sciarelli, who oversaw its recovery while respecting its original structure and spirit.

The vessel belonged to the owner Renato Pirotta and was moored for years at the Yacht Club Adriatico in Trieste. It is considered a significant piece of historical naval tradition, one of the oldest vessels still active in the Mediterranean Sea. The restoration of the Sorella represents an example of an intervention of great taste and sensitivity, aimed at enhancing the heritage of vintage sailing.

Carlo Sciarelli (Trieste, 1934 – 2006) was an engineer and naval designer, among the most important figures of the Italian navy of the twentieth century. Cultured and passionate, defined as a "genius self-taught", he experienced a deep connection with the sea and with classic naval design. Since he was a boy he frequented the shipyards of the port of Trieste, which were a source of inspiration and a place of learning for him throughout his life. His culture, vast and refined, was reflected in the conception of the boat as a technical, aesthetic and poetic work. During his career he designed 138 sailing and motor boats; his first project dates back to the 1950s. His creations were distinguished by elegant and streamlined lines, animated by a constant search for beauty and harmony, combined with solid and reliable hulls. Sciarelli knew how to harmonize the sailing tradition of the sailing ships of the 18th and 19th centuries with modern functionality. Contrary to the fashions of the moment, he maintained that "boats must be beautiful and sail well". His works are today considered true works of art, kept as collectors' items. In 1970 he published the volume "The Yacht. Origin and evolution of the pleasure sailing vessel", still today a reference text for naval architects, historians and enthusiasts, considered a classic of world naval culture. In it Sciarelli interprets the yacht as an aesthetic and spiritual expression. Among his most famous boats are Serenity, Alnair, Glorius, San Nicolò, Ritosa and the training boats for the Italian Navy. Famous quotes by Carlo Sciarelli: “Boats are not drawn with a ruler, but with the soul.” “A boat must be beautiful: if it is beautiful, it will sail well.”
