Aneroid Barometer
1765023496Code 8364 Aneroid BarometerEnglish-made aneroid barometer, mounted on a brass frame richly decorated with multiple marine-themed ornaments, in late nineteenth-century style. The structure, created using lost-wax casting, displays remarkable attention to detail and includes a fishing spear with a long rope wrapping around the frame, two crossed oars, two anthropomorphic dolphins, and two culverins at the base. The overall design expresses an eclectic taste that combines maritime and ornamental elements, enclosing the barometer in an elaborate frame that allows a glimpse of the internal mechanism, complete with gilded gears, springs, and levers. The choice to display the movement is typical of many mid-20th-century productions, a period in which the popularity of "visible" scientific instruments was spreading. Good condition; working barometer. Dimensions: 16 × 6 × 29.5 cm – 6.3 x 2.4 x 11.7 in.

Fragment of Blue John
1772038869Code 727 Fragment of Blue JohnFragment of Blue John, a very rare and unique variety of fluorite, from the early 1900s, characterized by spectacular purple-blue and creamy-yellow bands, cut, polished, and mounted on a turned wooden support. Dimensions: 5.7 x 5 x 5 cm – 2.2 x 2 x 2 in, base diameter: 10.5 cm – 4.2 in. Blue John is found virtually exclusively in a specific area of England, the Peak District, specifically near the village of Castleton (Derbyshire). It is extremely rare because there are no significant deposits outside that area. It is used for ornamental objects: jewelry, vases, cups, and sculptures. The name Blue John almost certainly derives from the French bleu et jaune – blue and yellow – due to its typical colors.
